Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)
The 485 visas are designed for international students who have just finished their studies in Australia but wish to remain in the country to gain valuable Australian work experience. This TR visa of Australia allows fresh graduates to live, study, or work in Australia, provided they have the skills needed to be employed across different economic sectors.
The 485 visa has 2 streams –
- Post-study workstream
- Graduate work stream (Graduate temporary work-visa)
The stream you apply for will determine how long you will stay in Australia after graduation. The graduate workstream also referred to as a Graduate temporary work visa, allows you to stay for as long as 18 months (1 year and 6 months). Although it will enable British and Hong Kong citizens to stay for up to 5 years. As for the post-study, the workstream allows you to stay a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 4 years. The length of your stay is determined by your qualifications.
Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (Subclass 482)
The TSS(Temporary Skill Shortage) visa is a temporary visa that permits the holder to live in Australia while working full-time for the sponsoring employer, in the nominated position. Applicants for a TSS visa may include dependent family members in their application. The TSS visa has a short-term stream and a medium-term stream. People with occupations on the Short-Term Skilled Occupations List (STSOL) are eligible for visas that last for up to two years (which can be renewed once, for another two years). People with occupations on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) are eligible for visas that last for up to four years, with eligibility for permanent residency after three years.
Skill Independent Visa (Subclass 189)
The Skilled Independent Subclass 189 visa is a permanent visa for skilled workers who are not sponsored by an Australian employer, family member, or nominated by a state or territory. This visa is for people who have skills that are in demand in Australia. To be eligible for a Skilled Independent visa (Subclass 189), you must score at least 65 points on the point assessment. In order to apply for this visa, you must submit an expression of interest (EOI) and be invited by SkillSelect. If you receive an invitation to apply for this visa, you have 60 days to submit your application. If you are granted the 189 Visa (Skilled Independent), you and your accompanying family members will be able to live, work, and study in Australia as permanent residents.
Skilled Nominated Work Visa (Subclass 190)
If you are a skilled worker with an occupation on Australia’s Skilled Occupations List, you may be eligible for a Subclass 190 visa which will allow you to work and live in Australia permanently. This visa requires the applicant to complete a skills test and be nominated by a state or territory government. This means that the government has to say that you are good at something and that they want you to stay in their area.

Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186)
The Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) is a way for eligible Australian employers to sponsor skilled overseas workers to live and work permanently in Australia. This visa requires the applicant to complete a skills test and be nominated by an approved Australian employer. This is so they can prove they have the skills needed for the job. There are three types of this visa, namely, Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream, Direct Entry stream & Labour Agreement stream. Applicants must meet the requirements for the specific type of visa they are applying for.
Business and Investment Visa (Subclass 188)
This is a visa for business owners, investors,, and entrepreneurs who are nominated by the state. The first step on the pathway to permanent residency is this visa. This visa allows you to own and manage a new or existing business in Australia, or to invest in Australia. To be eligible for the Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) visa – subclass 888, you must be nominated by a state or territory government or Australian agency. You must have been on a Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) subclass 188 visa for at least three years. There are four types of visas in this program, namely, business innovation stream, investor-stream, and business innovation extension stream. & significant investor extension stream.
Partner Visa
This visa permits the spouse of an Australian Visa holder to reside with them in Australia. Concerning partner and spouse Visa, there are three varieties of visas namely: offshore partner visas (subclass 309 and 100), onshore partner visas (subclass 820 and 801), and Prospective Marriage Visa (subclass 300).
The Partner Offshore visa permits the partner or spouse of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or certified New Zealand citizen to reside in Australia. To be eligible for this Visa you need to be in an actual relationship along with your spouse or de facto partner who is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand, citizen.
The Australian Onshore partner Visa permits the partner of an Australian citizen, or an Australian permanent resident, or a qualified New Zealand citizen to reside in Australia. The person applying for this Visa has to be the partner or de facto partner (minimum duration of one year) of an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
